Chief Strategy Officer

Gary has a deep technology and strategy background with nearly 30 years experience in software sales and marketing to nonprofit, corporate, and education institutions. Prior to being the founding VP Sales & Marketing at Kimbia, a leader in online fundraising tools to nonprofits, Gary was responsible for $100M of revenue for Apple in the higher education and K12 markets in Texas. Gary had served in education sales roles, as well as the corporate and dealer channels at Apple, dating as far back as 1987, where he began his career in Chicago.

Currently, Gary is the founder of Silverlining Software, Inc. and CLOUD (Consortium for Local Ownership and Use of Data), Inc. Both Silverlining and CLOUD are dedicated to the transformation of privacy, security, identity, and data on the Internet. Gary’s passion for the impact of technology on people, business, and society dates back to the dot com era, when he launched the Texas eCommerce Association in the late 1990s, an organization that brought together Fortune 500 executives and startups statewide. In that role, then Governor George W. Bush appointed Gary to the State of Texas eGovernment Task Force, and Governor Rick Perry then reappointed him to the Texas Online Authority.

Gary has spoken at TEDxAustin, TEDxWeldQuay in Malaysia, TEDxTrastevere in Rome and TEDxTallaght in Dublin about his vision for the future of the Internet, as well as his passion for the fight with cancer, a passion born from the passing of his wife from breast cancer in October 2014, and the passing of of a classmate and honored hero at his kids’ school in Austin to leukemia in the summer of 2013. Gary was recognized in 2016 with the Chairman’s Citation Award, as well as the second ever President’s Award from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 2017. Gary also serves on the Boy Scouts of America’s National STEM Advisory Committee, part of a lifelong commitment to Scouts and the outdoors from his own Eagle as a youth to serving as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster of his son’s Pack and Troop,. Gary also serves on the vestry at All Saint’s Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas.

Gary received his BA from Northwestern University in 1987, MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management in 1992, and JD from the University of Texas School of Law in 2000. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Texas Review of Law and Politics and writes of his journey and the power of love at and the impact of technology at Gary lives west of Austin, Texas with he and Maureen’s children, Taylor (19), Kyla (17) and Katelyn (14).
